ze husband turned 32 on friday... i know he thinks differently, but his birthday is WAY too close to christmas for my liking.. as a result, i try to plan for his birthday well in advance since the holidays are hectic. oh yeah, AND his birthday is the same as my mother's. weirdness? a little bit. this year the planning began in november. i thought i'd surprise him with an overnight stay away from good ol' slc. lucky for us, there's a lovely little hotel at the south end of heber with reasonably priced jacuzzi room suites AND a bar that's literally 1-2 minutes away walking distance, where last time we made best friends with the regulars.
allow me to note: i do NOT do well keeping surprises, but...
SOMEHOW, i kept this one til the day of. yay for me, i was pretty impressed with myself... and so, brett's birthday unfolded. we started with breakfast at ruth's, always a good choice in my opinion.. next, a 2 hour nap that was supposed to last only 15 minutes. we woke up, showered and got ready... and then, present time. seems like i did a good job this year... so, after he opened his gifts i told him that he might have overlooked something in between this and that... he found an old hotel key card, then gave me a confused look. brett: "ummm... are we... is this..." me: "we're staying there tonight!" brett: "let's go!" me: "hell yeah!" and we were up and on our way within a half hour. we went to dinner at the snake creek grill which is AWESOME if you're ever in the neighborhood and enjoyed a very-very nice night away.
the 32nd birthday was a total success.. and i'm still pretty damn proud of myself for keeping that surprise for more than a month and a half.
girls' night on saturday rocked as well... it's a nice thing to have fun friends who are only happy to see you after you've been MIA for the past couple months.

what things do you guys do on your girls night? is it just all talking like ours?
Congrats of the successful surprise! That sounds like a blast- and you are adorable!
birthday surprise sounds awesome. great job!
That's completely insane that, not only is your husband's birthday so close to Christmas, but also lands on the same day as your mother's. What're the ridiculous odds of it? Good luck with that. ;]
okay I must know where/what hotel you stayed in!
Oh and hi! I found you through Mel's blog - crazy random happenstance. How are you!?
crystal!! it's so nice to hear from you!! it's a holiday inn express at the south end of heber, right next to the timp tavern, 1 of 2 bars in heber.
how are YOU?!
I'm doing really really well actually. My boyfriend and I got 'officially' engaged over New Years - woot! But technically I proposed to him last summer up near heber (it's a long story) so it would be cute to go up there and stay for a weekend or something. The surprise birthday sounded like it turned out really fun :)
Oh and I have to leave a plug for our knitting nights on Tuesdays at the Tea Grotto - you're welcome anytime of course ;)
